Olympus SZ-30MR shoots 1080p video and 16MP stills simultaneously; Tough TG-810 is 'crushproof'

Olympus just loosed a trio of compact cameras. Let's start big with the €329 SZ-30MR. According to Olympus, the 30MR packs a backlit CMOS sensor with 24x (25-600mm) optical zoom and Dual Engine TruePic III+ processing. It also lays claim to being the first to simultaneously record 1080p video while shooting 16 megapixel stills -- a feature Oly dubs, Multi Recording. The SZ-20 lacks the MR and dials back the zoom to 12.5x but costs a relatively modest €219.

Olympus also announced a silver or black TG-810 compact for €299. First and foremost is the cam's claim for ruggedness: crushproof at a weight of 100kg (220 pounds); waterproof to 10 meters (32.8 feet); shockproof at a distance of 2 meters (6.56 feet); and freezeproof a temps to -10 degree celsius (14 degrees F). Otherwise, it boasts a 14 megapixel CCD sensor, a 5x (28-140mm) optical zoom, 720p movie mode, TAP control (for gloved use), GPS, and an electronic compass.

All three cameras feature a 3-inch LCD; HDMI; high ISO and sensor-based mechanical image stabilization; smart panorama, 3D photo, pet detection, and beauty modes; and SDXC and Eye-Fi card compatibility. Look for them to hit retail in March.

GoToMyPC app for iPad lets you access remote computers on-the-go

Popular remote computing tool GoToMyPC has launched an iPad app, joining competitors like TeamViewer HD in the App Store. You'll need the host program installed on any computers you wish to access, and an account is also required (but GoToMyPC does offer a free a 30-day trial).

Fire up the app on your iPad, and you're presented with a list of computers you've previously enabled for remote access. Connections via Wi-Fi and 3G are both supported, and all communication is 128-bit AES encrypted. GoToMyPC also features touch and gesture controls, which, of course, you'd expect from an iPad app.

Check out the video after the break to see the iPad-friendly GoToMyPC app in action!

WordPress 3.1 released, features massive writing workflow and admin overhauls

WordPress 3.1 releasedWith over 2,000 code commits and 820 bug and feature fixes, WordPress 3.1 has been released. You can download the new version in its entirety, or simply log into your WordPress.org installation and update via the Dashboard.

The most notable new new change is a massively overhauled writing interface, which should make the entire publishing process both more streamlined and less intimidating for new users. Linking back to old posts and pages is now a lot easier, too (just click a button and start searching), and lots of rarely-used blocks have now been hidden by default (they can be re-enabled in Screen Options).

There's a new Admin Bar, which appears at the top of every page and makes moving around your blog's back end a whole lot easier. For power users and theme makers, there are now Post Formats, which significantly increase the flexibility of WordPress layouts.

For a complete list of the changes and new features, check the WordPress 3.1 Codex page.

'I'll be sharing the other looks with you guys here on my blog,' she told her fans.

On her blog, Kim Kardashian is teasing fans with a new look at her Hype Williams-directed music video for her single, "Turn It Up." In a series of photos she posted on her blog, Kim shows the process it took for her to get the Bo Derek braids she's rocking in the soon-to-be-released video.

In a few photos, fans see the finished look: Kim rocking the braids, wearing white fur and gracing peachy lips. In another pair of photos, Kim sits in a hairdressing chair as a team works to give Kim those corn rows. Back in December, Kardashian tweeted a photo of herself in the braids, without indicating whether the look would appear in her video.

"Hype Williams came up with this Bo Derek braids look for the music video and I loved it!" she wrote about the hairstyle on Tuesday. "It took about four hours to do, and believe it or not I fell asleep! I wish I could have worn it longer."

Kardashian said that she's wearing more than just this one look in the clip and that as the video's release approaches, she'll have more and more to share with fans about it. "We tried out a number of different looks in the video, and I'll be sharing the other looks with you guys here on my blog," she said. "I'm excited (and a little nervous) for you all to hear the song and watch the video. I really hope you all like it!"

On Monday, Kim posted an image of herself in the studio while she was recording the song, which premieres on "Kourtney and Kim Take New York" on Sunday. "I am so excited for you all to hear my song. It debuts this Sunday on [my show] and will be available on iTunes," she explained. "I'm going to start sharing all my pics from the music video shoot."

Kardashian has always said the song is a one-off and that all proceeds from its sale will go to a good cause. "I'm proud of myself that I tried something. It's all in fun," she explained about the song, which was produced by The-Dream. "We just had a good time and the proceeds are going to a cancer organization [because we both] lost a parent to cancer. So it's just fun."

Panasonic celebrates higher plasma TV sales for 2010, sets prices for 2011

After setting its LED pricing for the year to come, Panasonic has finally set its plasma HDTV info in stone. Again matching the information leaked from retailers, the MSRPs (before any retailer discounts) range from the 65-inch TC-P65VT30 sticking at $4,299 down to the $599 720p TC-P42X3. Also of note is the inclusion of not only the previously announced S30 series without 3D technology or the new Infinite Black 2 panel (unlike the step-up ST30 models) but there will also apparently be a V30 line without the 3D fittings, although there's no specs, prices or ship dates mentioned. Last year the only top of the line model available was the VT25, although there was a 2D only V20-series plasma available in Australia and other regions. 3D or no, things appear to be looking up for plasma TVs, with shipments jumping nine percent last year. Check the press release after the break for all the details, but we'll have to wait until the TVs to arrive to find out if Panasonic is going to be able to hold onto its crown again.

Keen On? Peter Guber: ?The Idea That Music is Dead is Ludicrous? (TCTV)

Yesterday, movie, music and sports mogul Peter Guber told me why there?s no business without story business. In the instant best-selling Tell To Win: Connect, Persuade, and Triumph with the Hidden Power of Story, his new book released today, Guber urges everyone to unleash the power of story. Today, Guber?s attention shifts from the power of storytelling to the future of the entertainment industry. And in keeping with his ferociously infectious optimism, Guber believes that the future of the entertainment business shines brightly. The idea that the music or movie industry is dead, for example, he describes as ?ludicrous? ? even though he is very insistent that we, as consumers, have a moral obligation to pay for our content rather than steal it. Video ahead.
